Geotechnical Engineer - Mining Projects

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to play a key role in their mining projects, based in the Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire area. This position is responsible for assessing ground conditions, analyzing soil and rock mechanics, and providing engineering solutions to ensure the stability and safety of mine structures, excavations, and waste disposal sites. You will work closely with mine planning and construction teams, utilizing advanced geotechnical principles and software. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in geotechnical investigations and design within the mining or civil engineering sectors. This role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the structural integrity and safety of major mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site assessments, soil sampling, and laboratory testing.
• Analyze rock and soil mechanics data to determine stability criteria for slopes, excavations, and underground workings.
• Design and recommend foundations, retaining structures, and ground improvement measures.
• Develop geotechnical models and provide engineering support for mine design and construction.
• Monitor ground behavior during mining operations and implement remedial actions as needed.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, recommendations, and specifications.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on mining or large infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio).
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering.
• Experience with field investigation techniques and interpretation of CPT, SPT, and borehole data.
• Excellent analytical and technical writing skills.
