Geotechnical Engineer - Mining Stability

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Geotechnical Engineer to ensure the safety and stability of their mining operations in the Cardiff area. This critical role involves assessing ground conditions, designing support systems, and monitoring the integrity of mine structures. You will be instrumental in mitigating geological risks and ensuring compliance with stringent safety standards, protecting both personnel and assets. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in soil and rock mechanics and a passion for applying these principles to the challenging environment of underground and surface mining.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical investigations, including site assessments and laboratory testing of soil and rock samples.
• Design and implement ground support systems for tunnels, shafts, and excavations.
• Conduct stability analyses for slopes, waste dumps, and underground openings.
• Develop monitoring programs to assess the performance of geotechnical structures.
• Provide technical advice on geological hazards and risk management strategies.
• Review and approve geotechnical designs and construction methods for mining projects .

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with specific experience in the mining sector .
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for slope stability, seepage, and deformation analysis.
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and engineering geology.
• Experience with ground monitoring instrumentation and data interpretation.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or eligibility is highly desirable.
