Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their dynamic team supporting mining operations in and around Manchester . This hybrid role involves both office-based analysis and site visits, where you will be responsible for assessing ground conditions, designing stability measures, and mitigating risks associated with underground and open-pit mining activities. You will work closely with geologists, mine planners, and construction teams to ensure the integrity and safety of mine structures and surrounding infrastructure. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that all operations are conducted with the utmost regard for safety and environmental best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical investigations, including soil and rock mechanics analysis for mine site characterization.
• Design and implement slope stability and ground support systems for open-pit and underground mines.
• Conduct seismic hazard assessments and develop mitigation strategies for mining-induced seismicity.
• Monitor ground movement and provide recommendations for remedial actions and operational adjustments.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, feasibility studies, and design documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine planning and design.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering , Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the mining or civil infrastructure sector.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., Rocscience suite, Plaxis, GeoStudio).
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics , soil mechanics, and groundwater hydrology.
• Experience with site investigations, laboratory testing, and field instrumentation.
• Excellent analytical and report writing skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly.
