Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their established mining division in Manchester . This role is crucial for ensuring the stability and safety of mining operations, including pit slopes, underground excavations, and tailings storage facilities. You will conduct detailed geotechnical investigations, perform complex stability analyses, and provide practical engineering solutions to mitigate risks. Key Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical site investigations, including data acquisition and analysis.
• Conduct stability analyses for open pits, underground mine openings, and tailings dams using specialized software.
• Develop and implement ground support designs and recommendations for underground mines.
• Monitor and assess the performance of slopes and excavations, recommending remediation measures as needed.
• Collaborate with mine design and planning teams to ensure geotechnical risks are managed effectively.
• Prepare geotechnical reports, specifications, and construction quality assurance plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on the mining industry.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as Plaxis, Slide, or Rocscience suite.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and hydrogeology .
• Experience with field testing methods and instrumentation installation.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.
