Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their dynamic team based in Manchester . This critical role focuses on ensuring the stability and safety of our mining operations, from pit slopes and underground excavations to tailings storage facilities. You will play a key part in risk assessment, design, and monitoring, providing expert advice to engineering and operations teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics and a proven ability to apply this knowledge to practical mining challenges. You will contribute to a culture of safety and operational excellence, working on diverse projects within the UK's significant mining sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and analyses for mine design and stability assessments.
• Develop and implement monitoring programs for slopes, excavations, and earth structures.
• Provide geotechnical recommendations for mine design, construction, and operational modifications.
• Assess risks associated with geological hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
• Review and approve geotechnical designs and reports.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• BEng or MEng in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering , with specific experience in the mining industry.
• Strong knowledge of rock and soil mechanics, groundwater flow, and numerical modelling techniques.
• Experience with geotechnical software such as Rocscience suite or FLAC.
• Ability to interpret geological and geotechnical data and produce clear, concise reports.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is highly desirable.
