Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer with specific expertise in the mining sector for a critical project based out of Belfast . This role will focus on the stability of slopes, tunnels, and underground excavations, ensuring the safety and integrity of mining infrastructure. You will conduct detailed site investigations, perform complex analyses, and provide engineering recommendations to mitigate risks associated with ground conditions. This is a project-based role offering a significant opportunity to apply specialized geotechnical knowledge to challenging mining environments, contributing to project success and safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations including drilling, in-situ testing, and laboratory analysis of rock and soil samples.
• Perform detailed numerical modeling and stability analyses for open-pit slopes, underground excavations, and tailings dams.
• Develop and implement ground support designs and reinforcement strategies for mining structures.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, design documents, and construction monitoring plans.
• Provide expert advice and technical support to mine planning and operations teams.
• Ensure all geotechnical work complies with relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, with a significant portion focused on the mining industry.
• Proven experience with geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, or similar finite element analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and mine design principles.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
• Familiarity with remote sensing and geophysical exploration techniques relevant to geotechnics is a plus.
