Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their mining operations team in the Glasgow area. This vital role focuses on ensuring the stability and safety of mine excavations, slopes, and structures. You will be responsible for site investigations, laboratory testing, numerical modelling, and the design of ground support systems. Your expertise will directly contribute to safe and efficient mining practices, mitigating risks associated with ground conditions. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations and geotechnical assessments for open-pit and underground mining projects.
• Perform laboratory testing and analyse soil and rock mechanics data.
• Develop detailed geotechnical designs for excavations, slopes, tailings dams, and other mine infrastructure.
• Utilize numerical modelling software (e.g., FLAC, Plaxis) to simulate ground behaviour and assess stability.
• Provide technical guidance and recommendations to mine planning and operations teams.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant portion in the mining sector.
• Strong knowledge of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and slope stability analysis.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for analysis and modelling.
• Experience with fieldwork, including site characterization and instrumentation installation.
