Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Manchester , focusing on critical aspects of mine stability and design. This role involves assessing ground conditions, designing support systems, and ensuring the safety and integrity of underground excavations and surface structures associated with mining operations. You will play a crucial part in risk management and providing essential engineering solutions within the demanding mining sector . The successful candidate will work in a hybrid capacity, balancing site visits with office-based analysis and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations and site characterization studies for mining projects.
• Design and implement slope stability analyses, tunnel support systems, and foundation designs.
• Monitor ground behavior and assess the risks associated with geological hazards, such as landslides and seismicity.
• Develop and review geotechnical designs, specifications, and construction plans.
• Provide on-site technical support during construction and operational phases, particularly for critical underground works.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and present findings to project teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant exposure to the mining industry .
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, FLAC, Slide).
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and slope stability analysis.
• Experience with site investigation techniques and laboratory testing interpretation.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to apply engineering principles to complex problems in the Manchester area.
