Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

About the Role

Our client requires a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer specializing in mining applications to join their team in Cardiff . This role is essential for assessing ground stability, designing support systems, and mitigating geological risks associated with underground and open-pit mining operations. You will play a key role in ensuring the safety and integrity of mine structures and excavations, contributing to the successful and sustainable operation of our client's projects. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and their application in complex mining environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations , including site characterization and laboratory testing.
• Analyze slope stability, tunnel design, and underground excavation stability using advanced modeling software.
• Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems, including rock bolting, shotcrete, and timbering.
• Develop and implement ground control management plans to ensure operational safety.
• Provide expert advice on geological hazards and risk mitigation strategies.
• Monitor geotechnical performance during operations and recommend necessary adjustments.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnics, or Mining Engineering.
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering , with significant exposure to mining projects.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, FLAC, Rocscience suite).
• Experience with field instrumentation and monitoring techniques.
• Knowledge of UK and international geotechnical codes and standards.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.
