Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

About the Role

Our client seeks a dedicated Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Cardiff, Wales , focusing on mining-related projects. You will be responsible for assessing the ground conditions and stability of mine workings, designing and implementing ground support systems, and ensuring the safety and integrity of mining structures. This role requires a strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and their application in underground and open-pit mining environments. You will play a crucial role in mitigating geological risks and ensuring the successful and safe execution of complex mining projects within the region, contributing to the stability and longevity of our operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations and site characterization for new and existing mining projects.
• Analyze soil and rock mechanics data to assess slope stability, tunnel stability, and foundation design.
• Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems, reinforcement, and dewatering strategies.
• Develop and implement monitoring programs to assess the performance of geotechnical structures.
• Provide technical expertise and support for mine planning, design, and operational phases.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with specific experience in the mining sector.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, FLAC, Rocscience suite).
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and hydrogeology.
• Experience with ground investigation techniques and instrumentation.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively on-site.
