Geotechnical Engineer - Underground Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a qualified Geotechnical Engineer to focus on underground mining operations, based in Manchester . This role is essential for ensuring the stability and safety of underground mine workings through expert geotechnical analysis and support. You will play a crucial part in the design and monitoring of ground support systems, hazard identification, and risk mitigation strategies. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and analyses for underground mining environments, including rock mass characterization and stability assessments.
• Design, implement, and monitor ground support systems (e.g., rock bolts, shotcrete, mesh) to ensure mine stability.
• Perform seismic monitoring and analysis to assess potential risks and advise on mitigation measures.
• Provide technical guidance and support to mine operations personnel on geotechnical matters.
• Develop and maintain geotechnical databases and reporting systems for ongoing monitoring and historical records.
• Participate in mine design reviews and contribute geotechnical expertise to planning processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, specifically within underground mining.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC, UnWedge).
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, underground geological conditions, and ground support principles.
• Experience with ground monitoring instrumentation and data interpretation.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly.
