Geotechnical Engineer - Underground Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Geotechnical Engineer to join their expanding team in Manchester , focusing specifically on underground mining projects. You will be instrumental in ensuring the stability and safety of underground excavations, tunnels, and mine workings. This role requires a deep understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and their application in complex mining environments. You will work closely with mine planning and operational teams to provide critical geotechnical assessments and recommendations, contributing to the safe and efficient extraction of resources. Key Responsibilities

• Assess the geotechnical conditions of underground sites to determine stability and risk factors.
• Design and implement ground support systems and mine stabilization measures.
• Conduct site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
• Monitor ground movement and seismic activity using instrumentation and analysis.
• Develop and refine numerical models to simulate rock mass behavior and predict potential failures.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice and recommendations to mine planning and operational teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant portion focused on underground mining.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for analysis and modeling (e.g., FLAC, RocScience suite).
• Solid understanding of rock mechanics, slope stability, and tunnel design principles.
• Experience with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring techniques.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex geological and engineering data.
