Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Geotechnical Engineer to join their team based in Cardiff , Wales . This role is critical for assessing ground conditions, designing stable foundations, and mitigating risks associated with excavation and construction projects. You will conduct site investigations, analyze soil and rock mechanics, and provide essential recommendations to ensure the safety and integrity of our mining and infrastructure developments. This is an on-site position requiring a strong presence at project locations and the central office.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil and rock properties to determine bearing capacity, settlement potential, and slope stability.
• Design foundations, retaining walls, and earthworks to meet project requirements and safety standards.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, including interpretations, recommendations, and design drawings.
• Provide on-site technical support during construction phases, addressing geotechnical challenges as they arise.
• Collaborate with structural engineers, project managers, and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical investigation and design.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, PLAXIS, or similar.
• Knowledge of relevant British Standards and Eurocodes for geotechnical design.
• Experience with ground improvement techniques and deep foundation systems.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex geological data.
