About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their team supporting mining operations in and around Cardiff . This role focuses on understanding and managing the physical properties of soil and rock masses to ensure the stability and safety of mining structures, excavations, and tailings facilities. You will be instrumental in assessing geological hazards, designing ground support systems, and contributing to the long-term sustainability of mining projects. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of soil mechanics and rock mechanics, contributing to a culture of engineering excellence and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site investigations and collect data on soil and rock properties.
- Perform geotechnical analyses for mine design, slope stability, and foundation design.
- Develop designs for ground support systems, tunnels, and underground excavations.
- Assess and manage risks associated with geological hazards such as landslides and subsidence.
- Provide technical guidance on geotechnical aspects of tailings storage facilities and waste rock dumps.
- Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, specifications, and recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably with exposure to the mining sector .
- Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, FLAC).
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and engineering geology.
- Experience in conducting field investigations and laboratory testing interpretation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
