About the Role
Our client is seeking an innovative Grid Modernization Engineer to join their forward-thinking team in Reading . This role is integral to upgrading and enhancing the electrical grid to meet the demands of a changing energy landscape, including the integration of smart grid technologies and distributed energy resources. You will contribute to the design, planning, and implementation of projects that improve grid efficiency, reliability, and resilience. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies for grid modernization, focusing on smart grid technologies.
- Analyze grid performance data to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, reliability, and capacity.
- Design and specify new grid infrastructure, including advanced metering, communication systems, and control technologies.
- Evaluate and integrate distributed energy resources (DERs) and renewable energy sources into the grid.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, regulatory bodies, and technology providers on modernization projects.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements for grid operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on grid modernization or smart grid technologies.
- Strong understanding of power flow, grid stability, protection systems, and SCADA.
- Experience with distributed energy resources (DERs), microgrids, and renewable energy integration.
- Familiarity with communication protocols and cybersecurity aspects of smart grids.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
