About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and inspirational educator to lead their English Literature Department in Portsmouth . As Head of Department, you will be responsible for driving academic excellence, developing innovative teaching strategies, and leading a team of dedicated English teachers. Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and inspire the English Literature teaching team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing department.
• Oversee the development and implementation of a challenging and engaging English Literature curriculum across all key stages.
• Monitor student progress and attainment in English Literature, implementing intervention strategies as needed.
• Conduct departmental self-evaluations and contribute to the school's wider self-improvement plan.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, with a strong background in English Literature.
• Proven experience in a leadership role within a secondary school English department.
• Deep knowledge of English Literature curriculum requirements for Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
• Excellent organisational, communication, and strategic planning skills.
• Ability to motivate and mentor staff effectively.
