About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and inspirational leader to take on the role of Head of Department for Science at their esteemed secondary school in Belfast . This leadership position requires a visionary individual to guide the science faculty, oversee curriculum development across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and ensure the delivery of outstanding science education that inspires students and fosters a lifelong interest in STEM subjects. You will be instrumental in mentoring teaching staff, driving pedagogical innovation, and maintaining high academic standards, playing a critical role in the school’s academic strategy and overall success. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Science department, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration among staff.
• Develop and implement a challenging and engaging curriculum across all key stages for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
• Monitor student progress and attainment in Science, implementing strategies to improve outcomes.
• Manage departmental budgets, resources, and equipment effectively.
• Mentor and support the professional development of science teachers within the department.
• Promote extracurricular science activities and competitions to enhance student engagement.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in a relevant Science subject.
• Significant experience teaching Science at the secondary level, with a proven track record of academic success.
• Demonstrable experience in a leadership or management role within a school setting.
• Strong understanding of current science education pedagogy and curriculum development.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to inspire and motivate both students and staff.
