About the Role

Our client is seeking an inspirational and experienced educator to take on the role of Head of Department for Science at their well-regarded secondary school in Stoke-on-Trent . This leadership position involves overseeing the curriculum, teaching, and development of the Science faculty, ensuring the delivery of high-quality science education to all students. You will be responsible for leading and motivating a team of dedicated science teachers, driving pedagogical innovation, and fostering a positive learning environment. This is a crucial role for shaping future scientists and ensuring academic excellence within the Staffordshire region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Science department, including staff development, performance management, and resource allocation.
• Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of the science curriculum across all Key Stages, ensuring alignment with national standards and examination board requirements.
• Promote high standards of teaching and learning within the department, encouraging innovative pedagogical approaches.
• Foster a culture of enthusiasm for science among students and staff, organising extracurricular activities and STEM initiatives.
• Manage the departmental budget effectively and ensure the safe and efficient use of laboratory facilities and equipment.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree in a Science subject.
• Proven experience of leadership and management within a secondary school science department.
• A deep understanding of the science curriculum and assessment requirements at secondary level.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
