About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic educator to take on the role of Head of English Literature at a prominent secondary school in Liverpool . This leadership position is responsible for guiding the English Literature department, fostering a deep appreciation for literary works, and ensuring academic excellence for students at Key Stages 4 and 5. You will lead a dedicated team of teachers, develop innovative curriculum strategies, and inspire a love of reading and critical analysis among students. This is a significant opportunity to shape the provision of English Literature education within a supportive and ambitious school environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the English Literature department, fostering a culture of high achievement and professional collaboration.
• Develop and implement an engaging and challenging curriculum for GCSE and A-Level English Literature.
• Oversee the effective teaching and learning within the department, ensuring high standards of student progress and attainment.
• Mentor and support English Literature teaching staff, providing guidance on pedagogical approaches and professional development.
• Manage departmental resources, including library provisions and digital learning tools, to enhance student learning.
• Promote a passion for literature through stimulating classroom discussions, literary analysis, and creative writing opportunities.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree in English Literature or a related field.
• Significant experience teaching English Literature at secondary and/or sixth-form level, with demonstrable leadership skills.
• In-depth knowledge of GCSE and A-Level English Literature syllabi and assessment requirements.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and pedagogical skills.
• Commitment to fostering a love of literature and critical thinking in students.
