About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Modern Languages Department to lead their language faculty in Edinburgh . This leadership role requires a passionate linguist to drive excellence in the teaching and learning of modern languages, including French, Spanish, and German. You will be responsible for curriculum development, staff supervision, and ensuring students achieve their full potential in language acquisition and cultural understanding. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Modern Languages department, overseeing curriculum delivery and pedagogical approaches.
• Develop and implement an inspiring and effective modern languages curriculum for all key stages.
• Monitor teaching quality and student progress, implementing strategies for continuous improvement.
• Manage departmental resources and budget effectively.
• Promote an enthusiasm for languages and intercultural understanding among students and staff.
• Oversee examination preparation and ensure high student achievement in modern languages.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a specialism in a Modern Language.
• Substantial experience teaching modern languages at secondary level, with proven leadership experience.
• Strong understanding of language acquisition methodologies and curriculum design.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• Ability to inspire students and foster a love for languages and diverse cultures.
