About the Role

Our client is seeking an inspirational and experienced educator to take on the role of Head of the Modern Languages Department at a prominent secondary school in Birmingham . This leadership position involves overseeing the teaching and learning of French, Spanish, German, and potentially other languages, ensuring academic excellence and fostering a love for linguistic and cultural exploration among students. You will be responsible for leading a team of dedicated language teachers, driving departmental strategy, and contributing to the wider school's academic vision. Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and inspire the Modern Languages teaching team, promoting best practice in language pedagogy.
• Develop and implement a cohesive and engaging curriculum for all Key Stages, ensuring alignment with national standards.
• Monitor student progress and implement targeted interventions to support achievement in language learning.
• Organise and promote cultural enrichment activities, such as exchange programmes and language societies.
• Manage departmental resources effectively, including budgets and staffing allocation.
• Contribute to the wider school leadership team, participating in strategic planning and policy development.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a successful MFL teacher, with a strong track record of student attainment.
• Demonstrated leadership experience within a secondary school setting.
• Fluency or advanced proficiency in at least one major European language (e.g., French, Spanish, German).
• Comprehensive understanding of curriculum development, assessment, and examination requirements.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and team leadership skills.
