Health and Safety Officer - Mining Sector

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and proactive Health and Safety Officer to champion safety initiatives within their mining operations based in Belfast . This critical role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and contractors. You will be responsible for conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, and promoting a strong safety culture across the site. Your expertise will be vital in upholding the highest safety standards in the Northern Ireland mining industry .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the site's health and safety management system .
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, reporting findings and implementing corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver health and safety training programs to employees at all levels.
• Promote a positive safety culture through engagement, communication, and visible leadership.
• Advise management on all aspects of health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practices relevant to mining operations in Belfast .

Requirements

• Recognised qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH National General Certificate or Diploma).
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a dedicated Health and Safety role , preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Thorough knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, particularly as it applies to mining and quarrying .
• Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, develop safe systems of work, and manage incident investigations.
• Excellent communication, influencing, and training skills.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
