An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Children's Emergency Department. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate health care assistant to join our team.
CED provides emergency and urgent care to children in and around Derby and surrounding areas from birth to 18 years. It consists of a Children's Emergency Department and Paediatric Observation Unit at Royal Derby Hospital.
You must be motivated and committed to the delivery of high quality care, and have the ability to communicate and work effectively with children of all ages and their families. You will be working within a multidisciplinary team to provide support to the children and families, ideally you will have previous experience working with children and /or previous experience in a health care setting.

- 34.5 hours Fixed term/Secondment for 9 months to cover Maternity Leave

Our Health Care Assistants work as part of the multi-professional team caring for patients aged from 0-18 years and their parents/carers.
Our Health Care Assistants;
- Promote and support registered staff with the physical health, comfort and wellbeing of babies/children/young people, including recording vital signs once competency completed.
- To provide support and supervision for patients attending with Mental Health needs, working alongside the registered staff to care for these patients recognising their individual needs
- Escort patients to the ward to other departments within the hospital
- Keep the department clean and tidy and support with keeping the area well stocked
- Assist registered staff with the completion of minor injury treatments, venepuncture & cannulation
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Substantial recent/current experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Care Certificate based on the standards set by NHS England, Skills for Care and Skills for Health. This must be gained by working in a vocational capacity (we will not accept an online care certificate).
- Be able to demonstrate a good standard of numeracy and literacy.
- NVQ Level 2/3 or Diploma in Health and clinical skills such as venepuncture are desirable.
