Horticultural Supervisor

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Horticultural Supervisor to lead a team responsible for the maintenance and development of large-scale gardens and grounds at estates near Bristol . This role involves planning and executing horticultural activities, managing a team of gardeners, and ensuring the highest standards of plant care, landscape design, and site presentation. The ideal candidate will possess a deep knowledge of horticulture, strong leadership abilities, and a keen eye for detail, contributing to the aesthetic beauty and ecological health of the properties under their care. Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the horticultural team, including planting, pruning, lawn care, and seasonal planting.
• Develop and implement horticultural plans, ensuring the health and vitality of diverse plant collections, including trees, shrubs, and herbaceous borders.
• Manage irrigation systems, pest and disease control programs, and the application of fertilizers and soil conditioners.
• Operate and maintain horticultural machinery and tools safely and effectively.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, providing training and guidance to the team.
• Contribute to landscape design proposals and oversee implementation of new planting schemes.

Requirements

• Proven experience in professional horticulture, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or team leader role.
• Strong knowledge of plant identification, cultivation techniques, pest and disease management, and garden design principles.
• Experience with a variety of horticultural machinery and equipment.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• A qualification in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or a related field is highly desirable.
• Ability to work effectively both outdoors in various weather conditions and in a supervisory capacity.
