Horticultural Technician

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Horticultural Technician to support their extensive grounds and botanical collections in Southampton . This hands-on role involves assisting with the planting, maintenance, and propagation of a wide variety of plant species, ensuring the aesthetic appeal and health of the horticultural displays. You will work closely with the Head Gardener and other team members, contributing to daily garden operations and special projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to develop their skills in a supportive environment, gaining practical experience in diverse horticultural practices within the vibrant city of Southampton .

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the planting, watering, weeding, and feeding of ornamental plants, shrubs, and trees.
• Operate and maintain horticultural equipment, including mowers, strimmers, and irrigation systems.
• Support propagation efforts, including seed sowing, cuttings, and grafting under supervision.
• Monitor plant health, identify pests and diseases, and assist in implementing control measures.
• Contribute to the upkeep of garden features, paths, and borders to maintain high standards of presentation.
• Assist with seasonal garden tasks, such as pruning, mulching, and preparing beds for planting.

Requirements

• Experience in a horticultural or gardening role, with a passion for plant care.
• Basic knowledge of plant identification, cultivation, and common horticultural practices.
• Ability to operate garden machinery safely and competently.
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• A relevant horticultural qualification or certificate is advantageous.
