Horticultural Technician

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Horticultural Technician to join their dynamic team based in Birmingham, West Midlands . This role focuses on the cultivation, care, and propagation of a wide variety of plant species, contributing to the success of various horticultural projects, including research, commercial production, and landscape development. You will work closely with senior horticulturalists and researchers, playing an integral part in ensuring the health and vitality of plant collections and contributing to innovative horticultural practices. This is a hands-on position for an individual passionate about plant science and dedicated to maintaining exceptional horticultural standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning and execution of propagation programs, including seed sowing, grafting, and Cuttings.
• Provide expert care for plants, including watering, fertilization, pruning, and pest/disease management, ensuring optimal growing conditions.
• Maintain detailed records of plant growth, treatment responses, and experimental data in a systematic manner.
• Operate and maintain horticultural equipment and tools, such as greenhouses, irrigation systems, and propagation units.
• Support research activities by preparing plant materials, collecting data, and assisting with experimental setups.
• Contribute to the aesthetic presentation and health of display gardens and plant collections.

Requirements

• A qualification in Horticulture, Botany, Plant Science, or a related field.
• Practical experience in plant propagation and cultivation techniques.
• Familiarity with common plant pests and diseases and their integrated management.
• Ability to follow complex instructions and maintain accurate scientific records.
• Experience with greenhouse environmental control systems is advantageous.
• A keen eye for detail and a commitment to horticultural excellence.
