About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Horticulturalist and Estates Manager to oversee the extensive grounds and gardens of a prestigious estate near Bradford . This multifaceted role requires a deep understanding of horticulture, landscape management, and the ability to lead a team in maintaining and enhancing the estate's aesthetic and ecological value. You will be responsible for planning horticultural strategies, managing garden operations, and ensuring the overall upkeep and development of the grounds in line with the estate's vision. This position offers a blend of strategic planning and practical application, requiring on-site presence for supervision and hands-on work, with some remote planning and administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive horticultural plan, including planting schemes, seasonal care, and long-term landscape development.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the gardens and grounds, including staff supervision, resource allocation, and task scheduling.
- Oversee pest and disease control, irrigation systems, and soil management practices to ensure plant health and vitality.
- Maintain and manage all horticultural equipment, tools, and machinery, ensuring they are in good working order.
- Advise on and implement sustainable horticultural and environmental practices across the estate.
- Manage contractors and suppliers for specialized works, ensuring quality and adherence to budget.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or a related field.
- Significant experience in professional horticulture, with a proven track record in managing large gardens or estates.
- Strong knowledge of plant identification, propagation, cultivation, and pest/disease management.
- Experience in managing teams, budgets, and project planning.
- Proficiency with horticultural machinery and irrigation systems.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
