Horticulturalist - Estate Management

About the Role

Our client seeks a skilled and passionate Horticulturalist to manage and maintain the extensive grounds of a prestigious estate near Bradford . This role involves hands-on gardening, landscape design implementation, and the overall care of ornamental gardens, lawns, and potentially kitchen gardens. You will be responsible for ensuring the grounds are kept to the highest aesthetic standards, working independently and as part of a small estate team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of plant care, soil management, and garden design principles, contributing to the beauty and upkeep of significant horticultural features.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, plant, and maintain ornamental gardens, herbaceous borders, and lawns to a high standard.
• Oversee the care of trees, shrubs, and other established plantings, including pruning and disease management.
• Manage irrigation systems and ensure efficient water usage across the estate grounds.
• Implement seasonal planting schemes and manage propagation activities where required.
• Operate and maintain horticultural machinery and tools safely and effectively.
• Contribute to the development and execution of the long-term landscape management plan for the estate.

Requirements

• Professional qualification in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or a related field.
• Proven experience in managing and maintaining large gardens or estates.
• Strong knowledge of plant identification, cultivation, and pest/disease control.
• Experience with garden design principles and implementation.
• Ability to operate and maintain horticultural equipment, such as mowers, strimmers, and blowers.
• A commitment to excellent horticultural practices and a keen eye for detail.
