Horticulturalist - Estate Management

About the Role

Our client seeks a knowledgeable and experienced Horticulturalist to manage the extensive grounds of a prestigious estate near Glasgow . This role involves the planning, implementation, and maintenance of diverse horticultural features, including formal gardens, parklands, and specimen trees, ensuring they remain in peak condition year-round. You will lead a small team of groundskeepers, oversee plant health, manage budgets for horticultural supplies, and contribute to the overall aesthetic vision of the estate. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive horticultural management plan for the estate grounds.
• Oversee the planting, care, and maintenance of a wide variety of ornamental plants, trees, and shrubs.
• Manage irrigation systems, pest and disease control, and soil enrichment programs.
• Lead, train, and supervise a team of gardeners and grounds maintenance staff.
• Source and manage horticultural supplies, equipment, and contractors.
• Ensure all horticultural activities are conducted with a focus on sustainability and conservation.

Requirements

• Professional qualification in Horticulture (e.g., RHS Diploma, HND Horticulture).
• Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in horticultural management, preferably on large estates or gardens.
• Expert knowledge of plant identification, cultivation, and propagation.
• Experience in garden design, landscape maintenance, and arboriculture.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage budgets effectively.
