Horticulturalist - Parks and Gardens

About the Role

Our client is seeking a passionate and skilled Horticulturalist to join their team responsible for the maintenance and development of public parks and gardens in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK . This role involves hands-on cultivation, plant care, and landscape management to ensure these vital green spaces are attractive, healthy, and accessible to the public. You will contribute to the horticultural excellence of the region, working with a variety of plant collections and contributing to landscape design initiatives. Key Responsibilities

• Planting, cultivating, and maintaining a diverse range of ornamental and native plants, shrubs, and trees.
• Implementing effective pest and disease control strategies using integrated pest management (IPM) principles.
• Managing irrigation systems and ensuring optimal water usage for plant health.
• Contributing to the design and implementation of new planting schemes and garden features.
• Operating and maintaining horticultural equipment, such as mowers, strimmers, and hedge trimmers.
• Educating the public on horticultural best practices and promoting the value of local green spaces.

Requirements

• Recognized qualification in Horticulture, Botany, or a related field.
• Proven practical experience in horticultural maintenance and garden design.
• Knowledge of plant identification, propagation, and cultivation techniques.
• Experience with organic gardening and sustainable horticultural practices.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• A driving license is often required for site travel.
