High Voltage Commissioning Engineer
Salary: £72,000 per annum base plus overtime (potential earnings over £100,000)

Our client is an established fast-growing company based in South Wales working on exciting high voltage infrastructure projects across the UK. As part of their continued growth, they are looking for a High Voltage Commissioning Engineer to join the close-knit, supportive team Nationwide across the UK.
As a High Voltage Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in the testing and commissioning of electrical systems from 11kV up to 132kV. You will work on a range of grid connections, substations, renewable energy projects, and industrial installations.
Responsibilities
- Preparation and execution of commissioning plans and procedures
- Functional testing of HV equipment including transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and SCADA systems
- Fault finding and diagnostics
- Site documentation and reporting
- Liaising with clients, DNOs, ICPs, and project managers
Experience Required
- Minimum 3+ years’ hands-on experience in high voltage commissioning (11kV 132kV)
- Experience working on DNO, ICP, IDNO, or private HV networks
- Familiarity with protection relay configuration and secondary injection testing (e.g. Omicron, Megger)
- Sound knowledge of commissioning procedures, electrical safety regulations, and risk assessment
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with a solution-driven approach
Essential Qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Senior Authorised Person (SAP) or demonstrable experience working under an SAP on HV networks
- G99/G59 testing and commissioning knowledge
- National Grid Person/BESC certification (or willingness to obtain)
- ECS/CSCS Card
- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS7671) (desirable)
- First Aid at Work & Manual Handling (current or valid)

- Excellent overtime rates - Time and a half for the first 5 hours worked on a Saturday, followed by double time, time and a half for midweek overtime & double time for all hours worked on a Sunday.

- Regular overtime opportunities - A contracted working day is 8 hours, employees typically work around 10-hour days from Monday to Friday, with the additional hours paid as overtime.
- £40 overnight allowance for each night away, giving you flexibility to spend it as you choose.
- £40 food allowance provided via a prepaid card for overnight stays.
- Varied work across the UK, with current and upcoming commissioning projects in locations including Southampton, Exeter, London, Wycombe, Dover, Wrexham and Stockton-on-Tees.
- Strong earning potential, with overtime, enhanced weekend rates and allowances offering the opportunity to increase your overall annual earnings beyond the basic salary.
