Job Description
Hydraulic Hose Technician – South Wales Job title Hydraulic Hose Technician (Mobile) Location Field-based, South Wales region Reports to Service Manager Contract Full-time, permanent Hours Monday to Friday, [08:00–17:00], plus on-call rota Role purpose The Hydraulic Hose Technician will provide responsive, high-quality on-site hydraulic hose services to minimise customer downtime. Operating from a fully equipped mobile workshop vehicle, the postholder will attend breakdowns and scheduled maintenance across Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot, the South Wales Valleys and surrounding areas.
Key responsibilities
Technical
- Attend emergency breakdowns and planned service work at customer sites across the region
- Diagnose hydraulic hose and fitting failures and determine the correct replacement
- Manufacture, fit and pressure-test hydraulic hose assemblies to the required standard
- Carry out hose inspections and preventative maintenance, reporting any at-risk components to the customer Customer service
- Deliver a professional, courteous and efficient service at all times
- Develop strong working relationships with customers and identify opportunities for additional work Administration and vehicle
- Complete job sheets, risk assessments, method statements and timesheets accurately and promptly
- Maintain the service vehicle in a clean, safe and well-organised condition, managing stock levels and replenishment
- Liaise with the Service Controller to plan workload and ensure efficient scheduling Health, safety and teamwork
- Comply with company and customer health, safety and environmental procedures, including fluid spill control
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced technicians
- Participate in a 1-in-[4] out-of-hours on-call rota
Person specification
Essential
- Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in the manufacture and fitting of hydraulic hose assemblies, preferably in a mobile service role
- Sound working knowledge of hydraulic systems, hose types and BSP, JIC, ORFS and metric fittings
- Ability to work independently, diagnose faults and make sound decisions on site
- Strong customer focus and effective communication skills
- Reliable, punctual and committed to high standards of workmanship
- Full UK driving license
Desirable
- Experience of mentoring or supervising junior technicians
- CSCS, CPCS or NPORS card; IPAF or PASMA certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Mechanical, plant or engineering apprenticeship or NVQ
- Familiarity with the South Wales region and its industrial, quarrying and construction sectors
- Welsh language skills
