We are currently recruiting for an experienced Import / Export Specialist to join a well-established manufacturing business based in Poole .
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in import/export, customs compliance and international logistics to take on a key role within the supply chain function.
The successful candidate will act as the subject matter expert for customs compliance, international trade, freight coordination and shipping , working closely with Supply Chain, Customer Service, Warehouse, freight forwarders, customs brokers and external logistics providers.

You will be responsible for ensuring international shipments are processed accurately, efficiently and in full compliance with UK and international customs and trade requirements.

The main duties for the Import/ Export Specialist
You will be responsible for ensuring international shipments are processed accurately, efficiently and in full compliance with UK and international customs and trade requirements.
- Managing import and export activities in line with UK and international trade regulations
- Preparing, reviewing and maintaining customs documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin and export declarations
- Coordinating customs clearance with freight forwarders and customs brokers
- Ensuring compliance with customs regulations, sanctions and export controls
- Coordinating inbound and outbound international shipments
- Monitoring shipments and proactively resolving freight, customs or documentation issues
- Providing escalation support for urgent and priority customer shipments
- Working closely with Warehouse and Customer Service teams to ensure priority shipments are dispatched on time
- Reviewing shipping documentation and ensuring processes are followed correctly
- Supporting freight planning, scheduling and carrier performance
- Assisting with freight cost improvement initiatives
- Monitoring changes to customs and trade regulations and communicating any relevant impacts
- Maintaining accurate records for customs audits and regulatory requirements
- Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures
- Supporting improvements to ERP and shipping systems
- Analysing logistics and compliance performance to identify opportunities for improvement
- Driving continuous improvement across customs, logistics and shipping processes
- Previous experience in import/export, customs compliance, logistics or international trade
- A strong understanding of UK customs regulations and international shipping requirements
- Experience working with freight forwarders and customs brokers
- Good knowledge of import and export documentation and procedures
- Experience with ERP and shipping systems
- Excellent organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- A confident approach to problem-solving and resolving logistics issues
- A continuous improvement mindset
- The ability to work effectively within a fast-paced operational environment
- Relevant import/export, customs or logistics qualifications would be advantageous.
