In-House Counsel - Commercial Contracts

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced In-House Counsel specializing in Commercial Contracts to join their busy legal department based in Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is crucial for supporting the company's commercial operations by providing robust legal advice and drafting/negotiating key agreements. You will play a vital role in safeguarding the company's interests while facilitating business growth and ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including supply agreements, distribution agreements, and licensing contracts.
• Provide timely and practical legal advice to business teams on contractual matters, risk assessment, and dispute resolution.
• Ensure all contracts comply with company policies and relevant legislation.
• Manage and resolve contractual disputes, liaising with external counsel when necessary.
• Develop and maintain contract templates and playbooks for common commercial arrangements.

Requirements

• A qualified lawyer (Solicitor or equivalent) with at least 5 years of relevant experience, ideally gained in-house or in private practice with a strong commercial focus.
• Proven track record in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
• In-depth knowledge of contract law, intellectual property, and data protection regulations.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload effectively.
