About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Information Security Engineer to bolster their security infrastructure in Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is essential for designing, implementing, and maintaining the technical security controls that protect our client's critical systems and data. You will work on the frontline of cyber defense, responding to threats, managing security tools, and architecting solutions that ensure compliance and resilience. This position requires a hands-on approach and a deep understanding of engineering principles applied to cybersecurity, working within a dedicated security operations center.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage security solutions, including firewalls, VPNs, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and data loss prevention (DLP) systems.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of security logs and network traffic to detect and respond to threats in real-time.
- Develop and automate security workflows and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with system administrators and network engineers to implement secure configurations and hardening measures.
- Perform regular security audits and compliance checks against regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Contribute to the development and testing of the organization's disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline.
- 3-5 years of experience in an Information Security Engineering role.
- Hands-on experience with network security devices (e.g., Palo Alto, Cisco ASA) and security monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, QRadar).
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and network protocols.
- Experience with scripting for automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
- Familiarity with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) is advantageous.
