Information Security Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Information Security Engineer to join their expanding IT department in Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is central to the protection of our client's critical information assets, involving the design, implementation, and maintenance of security infrastructure. You will be instrumental in identifying potential threats, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage security solutions including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and endpoint security.
• Perform regular security audits and penetration testing to identify and remediate vulnerabilities.
• Develop and enforce security policies and procedures to ensure data protection and compliance.
• Respond to security incidents, conduct forensic investigations, and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with IT teams to integrate security measures into new and existing systems.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the threat landscape and security best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
• Proven experience as an Information Security Engineer or in a similar technical security role.
• Strong knowledge of network security principles, operating systems (Windows/Linux), and cloud security.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation is a plus.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CCNA Security, or equivalent.
