About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and analytical Insurance Underwriter to join their established team in Birmingham . This hybrid role offers a blend of in-office collaboration and remote flexibility, allowing you to contribute to risk assessment and policy development. You will be responsible for evaluating insurance applications, assessing risk, and determining appropriate coverage terms and premiums. This position is key to ensuring the profitability and stability of our client's underwriting portfolio, requiring a sharp mind for detail and a solid understanding of risk management principles. You will work closely with brokers and agents, building strong relationships and providing expert guidance on underwriting decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and assess insurance applications to determine risk acceptability and pricing.
• Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and policies to support business objectives.
• Analyze financial data, loss history, and other relevant information to make informed underwriting decisions.
• Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers and agents to secure profitable business.
• Collaborate with the claims department to understand loss trends and inform underwriting strategies.
• Stay current with industry developments, market trends, and regulatory changes affecting underwriting.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an Insurance Underwriter , with a strong understanding of underwriting principles.
• Solid knowledge of various insurance lines (e.g., property, casualty, motor).
• Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with a keen eye for detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
• Proficiency in underwriting software and standard office productivity tools.
• Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CII) are highly desirable.
