Junior Process Chemical Engineer

Our client is seeking an enthusiastic Junior Process Chemical Engineer to join their established team in Sunderland . This role is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in chemical process design, operation, and optimisation. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers, contributing to vital projects that enhance our manufacturing capabilities. This position is based on-site, offering invaluable practical experience and direct interaction with state-of-the-art chemical processing equipment and facilities. You will be integral to fostering a culture of safety and efficiency within the plant.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers in the design and development of new chemical processes and modifications to existing ones.
• Support the execution of pilot plant trials and scale-up activities, collecting and analysing data.
• Conduct process troubleshooting and provide recommendations for operational improvements.
• Prepare technical reports, process documentation, and P&IDs under supervision.
• Participate in safety reviews and ensure adherence to all environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Learn and apply process simulation tools and data analysis techniques to support engineering tasks.

Requirements

• BEng or MEng degree in Chemical Engineering .
• Strong foundational knowledge of chemical engineering principles, including thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
• A keen interest in process optimisation and troubleshooting in an industrial setting.
• Familiarity with basic process safety concepts is advantageous.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and follow instructions diligently.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive attitude towards learning.
