Labourer / Handyperson - Council
Location: Council Area
Contract: Temporary Full-Time
Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00am-4:00pm Friday 8:00am-2:00pm
Excellent Opportunity for an Experienced Labourer / Handyperson
We are currently recruiting for an experienced labourer / Handyperson to join a busy Council maintenance team.
This is a practical, hands-on role involving general building repairs, site maintenance and labouring duties across Council buildings, sites and facilities.
We're looking for someone who is hardworking, reliable and practical, with at least 1 year's experience in labouring and building maintenance.
The Role
Your duties will include:
Carrying out general building and site repairs.Laying concrete and carrying out kerbing and fencing works.Painting and general maintenance.Repairing safety matting and other site equipment.Manual handling and movement of materials.Assisting skilled trades including bricklayers, joiners, electricians, plumbers, plasterers and excavator operators.Assisting with the erection and dismantling of equipment, fittings and structures for Council events.Assisting with scaffold erection and dismantling where appropriately trained.Removing graffiti and carrying out other cleaning and maintenance duties.Handling potentially unpleasant tasks, including dead animal removal.Using mobile phones/tablets to record work, take photographs and respond to emergency calls.Completing time sheets, work requests and records of materials used and work completed.Driving Council vans and other vehicles as required, including carrying out daily vehicle checks.Keeping vehicles, tools and equipment clean, secure and well maintained.Responding to emergency call-outs outside normal working hours when required and available.Working overtime, including public and bank holidays, when available.Attending training courses and completing relevant practical assessments.
About You
You should have:
Minimum 1 year's experience in general labouring and building repairs.Good practical knowledge of building and construction work.Experience with concrete, kerbing, fencing, painting and general site repairs.Good teamwork and communication skills.The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.Good record-keeping and basic IT skills.A good understanding of health and safety.Be comfortable working at heights.Good general fitness, as the role involves manual handling and physical work.A willingness to work outdoors and in potentially unpleasant conditions.
Requirements
Full, valid Category B driving licence.Current Construction Skills Registration Card (CSR/CSCS) or willingness to obtain one within 3 months of appointment.Willingness to complete a Council driving assessment.Willingness to participate in overtime and emergency call-outs when required.Appointment will be subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
