Lead Animator

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Animator to spearhead their animation department in Birmingham . You will be responsible for setting the animation quality bar, guiding a team of talented animators, and ensuring the visual execution of character and environmental animation aligns with the project's creative vision. This is a pivotal role for an individual passionate about bringing digital characters and worlds to life with fluidity and personality. You will work closely with the art director and game designers to achieve stunning visual results, contributing to a studio known for its innovative and visually rich entertainment experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of animators to achieve the highest standards of quality.
• Develop and implement animation style guides and best practices for character and environment animation.
• Create high-quality animation sequences for characters, creatures, and in-game events.
• Collaborate with art directors and technical artists to solve complex animation challenges.
• Conduct animation reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure consistent visual style.
• Work with game designers to integrate animations seamlessly into gameplay mechanics.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of experience in 3D character animation for games or film, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in keyframe animation, motion capture cleanup, and rigging.
• Proficiency in animation software such as Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender.
• Deep understanding of animation principles, timing, weight, and performance.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
• Experience with game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity is a plus.
