About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Automotive Mechanical Design Engineer to spearhead critical projects within their Coventry facility. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for guiding a team of talented engineers in the conceptualization, design, and development of advanced mechanical components and systems for next-generation vehicles. Your expertise will be crucial in driving product innovation and ensuring the highest standards of engineering excellence. This is an on-site position that demands hands-on leadership and a deep understanding of automotive mechanical engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of key automotive components, such as chassis, powertrain, or body systems.
• Manage and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
• Oversee the creation of 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and simulations using industry-standard software.
• Conduct thorough Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize designs for performance, durability, and manufacturability.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing, sourcing, and other engineering disciplines to ensure design feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for prototype components and systems, analyzing results to validate designs.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in automotive mechanical design.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering teams and projects.
• Expertise in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX) and FEA tools.
• Strong understanding of material science, manufacturing processes, and automotive regulations.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
