About the Role
Our client is seeking an accomplished Lead Bioinformatician to spearhead their genomics research initiatives in Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior position requires a deep understanding of computational biology and extensive experience in analyzing large-scale genomic datasets. You will be responsible for developing and implementing analytical pipelines, managing data resources, and collaborating with experimental biologists and clinicians. This is a key role for an individual passionate about leveraging computational approaches to unlock biological insights and drive advancements in personalized medicine, contributing to the strategic direction of our client's research efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, validate, and maintain scalable bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
- Perform complex data analysis, including variant calling, genome assembly, transcriptomics, and epigenomics.
- Manage and curate large biological datasets, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
- Collaborate with research teams to design experiments and interpret results from a computational perspective.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of bioinformaticians and data scientists.
- Contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of bioinformatics infrastructure and tools.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Significant experience (5+ years) in computational biology and bioinformatics, with a focus on genomics .
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics (e.g., Python, R, Perl) and experience with workflow management systems (e.g., Snakemake, Nextflow).
- Strong understanding of statistical methods and machine learning applied to biological data.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and lead a technical team in a research setting in Newcastle upon Tyne .
