About the Role
Our client is seeking a dynamic Lead Computational Biologist to spearhead their advanced research initiatives in Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior position involves directing a team of scientists in the analysis of large-scale biological data to drive drug discovery and development programs. You will be responsible for setting the technical direction, fostering innovation, and ensuring the rigorous application of computational methods to solve complex biological challenges. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of biological pathways, and a proven ability to translate data insights into strategic research decisions within a fast-paced R&D setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of computational biologists and bioinformaticians.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of computational strategies for target identification and validation.
- Analyze and interpret multi-omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics) to uncover biological mechanisms.
- Collaborate with discovery and development teams to integrate computational findings into project pipelines.
- Establish and maintain best practices for data management, analysis, and reproducibility.
- Present research findings and strategic recommendations to senior management and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a closely related field.
- Significant experience (7+ years) in computational biology research, with a demonstrated track record of leadership.
- Expertise in analyzing complex biological datasets and using statistical and machine learning techniques.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and experience with bioinformatics databases and tools.
- Strong understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and drug discovery processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with experience in a hybrid work environment.
