About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Bioinformatician to guide their genomics research initiatives in Birmingham . This pivotal role involves developing and implementing cutting-edge computational strategies for the analysis of large-scale genomic datasets. You will collaborate closely with experimental biologists and data scientists to extract meaningful insights that drive discovery and innovation in areas like personalized medicine and disease research. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable bioinformatic pipelines for analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
- Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to genomic datasets for variant calling, gene expression analysis, and pathway analysis.
- Collaborate with experimental teams to define analytical strategies and interpret results for projects in cancer genomics and rare diseases.
- Oversee data management, quality control, and database development for large genomic datasets.
- Mentor and guide a team of bioinformaticians, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
- Present findings to scientific stakeholders and contribute to peer-reviewed publications and grant proposals.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in bioinformatics, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Extensive experience with NGS data analysis (e.g., WGS, WES, RNA-Seq) and associated computational tools.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and shell scripting, along with experience in cloud computing environments (AWS, GCP).
- Strong understanding of statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, and database management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
