About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Bioinformatician to spearhead their computational biology efforts in Coventry . This senior role involves developing and implementing cutting-edge bioinformatics pipelines to analyze large-scale genomic and transcriptomic datasets. You will play a crucial role in translating complex biological questions into computational strategies and interpreting results to guide experimental design and therapeutic development. The position requires a blend of strong technical skills, deep biological understanding, and leadership capabilities to guide a team of bioinformaticians and collaborate effectively across research departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust bioinformatics pipelines for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis.
- Lead the analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data to identify biomarkers and drug targets.
- Collaborate with experimental biologists and clinicians to define research questions and computational approaches.
- Manage and mentor a team of bioinformaticians, fostering a collaborative and productive research environment.
- Develop and implement machine learning models for predictive biological insights.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and reproducibility of all computational analyses.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 5+ years of experience in analyzing large-scale biological datasets, with a strong focus on genomics and transcriptomics.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R, and experience with workflow management systems (e.g., Snakemake, Nextflow).
- Extensive experience with common bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g., BLAST, Ensembl, TCGA).
- Demonstrated ability to lead research projects and mentor junior staff.
- Strong understanding of statistical methods and machine learning algorithms applicable to biological data.
