About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly accomplished and visionary Lead Bioinformatics Scientist to spearhead their computational biology efforts, operating in a fully remote capacity based out of Newcastle upon Tyne . This critical role will involve architecting and implementing sophisticated computational pipelines for the analysis of large-scale genomic and proteomic datasets. You will be at the forefront of translating complex biological data into actionable insights, guiding a team of talented bioinformaticians and collaborating closely with research scientists across various disciplines. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of diverse omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics).
- Manage and mentor a team of bioinformatics scientists, providing technical guidance, project oversight, and career development support.
- Collaborate with experimental biologists and clinicians to define research questions and translate them into computational strategies.
- Implement and optimize advanced statistical and machine learning models for biological data interpretation.
- Ensure the quality, reproducibility, and efficiency of all computational analyses through robust documentation and version control.
- Contribute to the strategic planning of bioinformatics infrastructure and data management strategies.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in bioinformatics, with at least 2 years in a leadership or team management role.
- Demonstrated expertise in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with workflow management systems (e.g., Snakemake, Nextflow).
- Proven experience analyzing large-scale biological datasets (e.g., WGS, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq) and using relevant bioinformatics tools and databases.
- Strong understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, and algorithm development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead a remote team and collaborate across departments.
