Lead Character Artist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and inspiring Lead Character Artist to guide their character art team in Glasgow . You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the artistic quality and style of all in-game characters, from concept to final implementation. This senior leadership role requires a blend of exceptional artistic talent, technical proficiency, and strong mentoring capabilities. You will work closely with art directors and game designers to bring memorable characters to life, ensuring their visual integrity and performance across all platforms, fostering an environment of creativity and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of character artists to achieve high-quality results.
• Oversee the entire character art pipeline, from concept art to final in-game models, textures, and rigs.
• Ensure artistic consistency and adherence to the project's visual style guide.
• Collaborate with technical artists and engineers to optimize character assets for performance.
• Review work, provide constructive feedback, and maintain the quality bar for all character models.
• Stay current with industry trends and new technologies in character creation.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in character art for games, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role.
• A stunning portfolio showcasing exceptional character modeling, texturing, and rendering skills.
• Proficiency in industry-standard software such as ZBrush, Maya, Substance Painter, and Photoshop.
• Experience with real-time rendering and PBR workflows.
• Strong understanding of anatomy, form, and silhouette in character design.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
