About the Role
Our client is recruiting a talented Lead Cheminformatician for a fully remote position, based within the UK. This pivotal role will involve spearheading the development and application of computational methods to support drug discovery and chemical biology research. You will lead a team of informaticians, guiding them in the design, implementation, and maintenance of cheminformatics tools and databases. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of chemical structures, properties, and their relationship to biological activity, coupled with strong leadership capabilities in a remote setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of novel cheminformatics tools and platforms.
- Manage and mentor a team of cheminformaticians, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Oversee the curation and management of chemical and biological databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
- Develop and apply computational models for property prediction, virtual screening, and lead optimization.
- Collaborate with medicinal chemists, biologists, and other R&D scientists to address critical research challenges.
Requirements
- PhD in Chemistry, Cheminformatics, Computer Science, or a related field with a strong focus on computational chemistry.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in cheminformatics, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Extensive experience with chemical structure representation, databases (e.g., Oracle Spatial , PostgreSQL ), and associated software (e.g., RDKit , OpenEye ).
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python or Java for tool development.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and lead teams effectively in a remote setting.
