Lead Cheminformatics Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Lead Cheminformatics Scientist to spearhead their data science initiatives within the R&D department located in Birmingham . This pivotal role involves leveraging computational approaches and big data analytics to accelerate drug discovery and development. You will lead a team of cheminformaticians, shaping the strategic direction of computational chemistry and data management. The successful candidate will be instrumental in building predictive models, developing novel algorithms, and integrating diverse datasets to identify promising therapeutic targets and optimize compound design, contributing to our groundbreaking research efforts in Birmingham .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of cheminformatics specialists, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
• Develop and implement advanced computational strategies for compound library design, virtual screening, and property prediction.
• Integrate and analyze large, multi-dimensional datasets from various sources, including HTS, ADMET, and omics data.
• Build and validate predictive models for drug efficacy, toxicity, and pharmacokinetic properties.
• Develop and maintain robust data management systems and workflows for chemical and biological information.
• Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and other R&D stakeholders to drive project success.

Requirements

• PhD in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computer Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in cheminformatics, with demonstrated leadership or team management experience.
• Expertise in molecular modeling, QSAR, machine learning algorithms, and statistical analysis.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and specialized cheminformatics toolkits (e.g., RDKit, OpenBabel).
• Experience with chemical databases and property prediction software.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-experts.
