Job Description
Lead Data Integrations Architect
Fixed-term contract to March 2027, with a view to going permanent | Cardiff / South Wales (hybrid) | 3 days per week in the office
The company
This is an established, fast-growing bespoke software company in South Wales. It builds custom applications and complex system integrations for public sector bodies, higher education, healthcare and the private sector. Its engineers work directly with clients, with no sales layer in between, and act as an extension of the client’s own team. It holds ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus, and is a trusted supplier to UK public sector organisations.
The role
You’ll lead the design and delivery of data integration on a major public sector programme. You’ll own the integration architecture that connects a set of Java-based applications, each with its own database technology, to Microsoft Dataverse as the target platform, all hosted in Azure. You’ll be the senior technical voice on data integration, working closely with client stakeholders, engineers and delivery leads.
This contract runs to March, and the clear plan is for the right person to stay on permanently.
What you’ll be doing
Defining and owning the end-to-end data integration architecture, from source systems to Dataverse
Designing integration patterns, data flows and migration approaches for Java applications running on a mix of databases (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL and similar)
Building scalable, secure integration solutions in Azure, using services such as Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps, Functions, Service Bus and API Management
Leading data mapping, modelling and transformation into the Dataverse schema
Setting standards for data quality, governance, security and compliance that meet public sector requirements
Giving technical leadership and mentoring to engineers, and reviewing designs and code
Explaining technical decisions clearly to senior and non-technical client stakeholders
Essential – you must have:
Public sector experience: you’ve delivered data integration or architecture work for public sector organisations (central or local government, NHS, education or similar)
Leadership experience: you’ve worked as a lead or architect, setting technical direction, guiding and mentoring engineers, and owning delivery outcomes
Microsoft / Azure tech stack: you have strong hands-on experience of designing and running solutions in Microsoft Azure and across the wider Microsoft ecosystem, ideally including Dataverse / the Power Platform
We’d also like to see:
Experience of integrating with Java application environments
Experience of working across a range of relational database technologies
Knowledge of APIs, ETL/ELT, event-driven integration and data migration methods
Strong communication skills and confidence with stakeholders
Nice to have
Microsoft certifications (e.g. Azure Solutions Architect, Power Platform Solution Architect)
Knowledge of GDS / public sector security and compliance standards
Exposure to .NET ecosystems
Eligibility for, or current, security clearance
Why apply?
Lead the architecture on a high-profile public sector programme
A clear route from contract to a permanent role
A collaborative, engineer-led culture with direct client contact
A growing, award-recognised business with a strong reputation for quality
